Seven Fatty Foods That Help You Diet

nutsWe all have that calorie counter nearby and have all been brain washed to think about foods as healthy, junk food and diet food. In reality, it's much more complex and now there are some new studies that indicate there are some foods high in fat content that will actually help you lose weight. The bottom line is that eating fat doesn't always make you fat.
Here's some suggestions from Mike Geary, certified personal trainer and certified nutrition specialist. Please check out his books, The Fat Burning Kitchen and The Top 101 Foods that Fight Aging . Here are some of the surprising food that dieters can eat:
1. Dark Chocolate is high in anti-oxidants and theobromine which lowers blood pressure and other health benfits. The sugar added to chocolate bars and the cocoa butter are the fattening parts, so stick to organic unsweetened cocoa powder to be sweetened with stevia or added to smoothies with fruit. Raspberries and cocoa powder make a great combination.
coconuts2. Coconut Milk, Coconut Oil, Coconut Flour are all a great help to your immune system. I'll let Mike tell you in his own words:
Coconut milk and oil are great sources of a super healthy type of saturated fat called medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), including a component called lauric acid, which is a powerful nutrient for your immune system, and is lacking in most western diets.  In addition, MCTs are readily used for energy by the body and less likely to be stored as bodyfat compared to other types of fats.
Along with coconut milk and coconut oil as healthy fat choices, we've also got coconut flour as a healthier flour option for baking. Coconut flour is an extremely high fiber flour alternative (almost ALL of the carbs in this flour are fiber and not starch!).  Coconut flour is also VERY high in protein compared to most flours and is also gluten free!
Just beware that if you're going to use coconut flour for baking, it absolutely NEEDS to be mixed with other flours as it sucks up moisture like crazy... I've made delicious baked goods by mixing coconut flour with almond flour and quinoa flour in equal parts, and adding slightly more liquid ingredients than the recipe calls for.

3. Butter from Grass-Fed Cows is high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fat that helps to burn abdominal fat and form lean muscle. It is said to have anti-cancer properties too.
4. Free-range Organic Eggs are full of vitamins including calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12, and panthothenic acid,  vitamins A, D, E, and K plus all the essential fatty acids. They are power houses of nutrition in a small form, including the egg yolk.
5. Grass-fed Beef - much the same as butter, beef is high in CLA and has 3 times the vitamin E as grain fed beef. While some people will not eat beef as it takes so much feed and land to raise it, the fact remains that it is actually a good diet food.
6. Avocadoes are another power-packed food and good for you in moderation. They are so versatile to fit into sandwiches, salads, guacamole, As Mike Geary says, "Not only is this fruit (yes, surprisingly, avocados are actually a fruit) super-high in monounsaturated fat, but also chock full of vitamins, minerals, micro-nutrients, and antioxidants."
7. Nuts - Walnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Pecans, etc. are of course high in fat but also chock full of vitamins and minerals and again need to be included in moderation. Better to eat raw nut rather than roasted nuts which have lost some of the nutritional value.
So as you settle into your diet of raw vegies and fruit, don't forget to include these foods as well. It will make you feel more satisfied and healthy at the same time.
